1. Definition of operational and transactional emails:
– Operational emails are sent to communicate critical information to all customers and subscribers, regardless of their opt-in status.
– Transactional emails are sent in response to a specific transaction initiated by the recipient, such as a purchase or contact form submission.
2. Examples of transactional emails:
– Purchase details, including order number and product description.
– Shipping information.
– Event or booking confirmation.
– Invoices.
– Password resets.
3. Examples of operational emails:
– Changes to terms of service.
– System updates that require action.
– Legal notices.
4. Embedding marketing messages within operational or transactional emails is generally not recommended, as it can lead to legal issues and damage sender reputation.
5. How to send operational emails in Pardot:
– Mark prospects as “Operational Emails Only” if they have unsubscribed or never opted in.
– Enable operational email sending in the Account Engagement settings.
– Use the “Operational Email” content type in the Email Builder or custom user role.
– Note that operational emails are currently sent as List Emails and cannot be sent through Engagement Studio, but Salesforce is working on enabling operational email sending from Engagement Studio in the future.
