Marketing Data Sharing is a powerful feature in Account Engagement (Pardot), but it’s also a bit confusing. I explain how MDS works with new Leads and Contacts …
Here are highlights from article How Marketing Data Sharing works in Pardot with new Leads and Contacts
1. Marketing Data Sharing (MDS) requires selecting a Salesforce field as a filter that is not currently set to sync with MCAE.
– The field determines whether a synced Prospect should remain in the Business Unit.
– If the Prospect does not meet the filter criteria, it is sent to the recycle bin.
2. New Prospects that don’t exist in Salesforce cannot be recognized by MCAE.
– Since the field cannot be syncing already, MCAE cannot determine whether they should be in the Business Unit.
3. Net-new Prospects created in an MCAE Business Unit using MDS will write the MDS filter value to the corresponding field on the Lead or Contact in Salesforce.
4. This means that even though it is not “synced” in the traditional sense, MCAE can still write to the field in the event of a net-new Lead or Contact creation from Account Engagement.
5. The documentation for Marketing Data Sharing in Account Engagement (Pardot) may be confusing or incomplete, requiring additional research and experimentation to fully understand how it works.
